## What each does

### prometheus/prometheus
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Metrics collection and storage
- The default for time-series metrics. Scrapes your services and stores what it finds.

### prometheus/alertmanager
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Alert routing and deduplication
- Takes alerts from Prometheus and gets them to a human without spamming.

### VictoriaMetrics/VictoriaMetrics
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Long-term metrics storage
- Stores years of metrics where Prometheus would run out of disk. Drop-in compatible.

### thanos-io/thanos
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Long-term Prometheus at scale
- Ships metrics to object storage and queries across multiple Prometheus instances.

### fluent/fluent-bit
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Log collection and forwarding
- Lightweight log shipper. Reads from files and containers, forwards anywhere.

### open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Telemetry pipeline (metrics, logs, traces)
- One collector for all three signal types. Vendor-neutral and the industry is standardising on it.

### jaegertracing/jaeger
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Distributed tracing
- Follows a request across services. The only way to find where latency actually comes from.

### louislam/uptime-kuma
- Licence: MIT
- Role: Uptime monitoring
- Watches endpoints and tells you when they stop responding, before users do.

### upptime/upptime
- Licence: MIT
- Role: Status page from GitHub Actions
- Generates a public status page from scheduled checks, hosted free on GitHub Pages.

### apache/superset
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Dashboards and BI
- Charts on top of your metrics and business data. One place to look at everything.

### open-telemetry/opentelemetry-js
- Licence: Apache-2.0
- Role: Instrumentation SDK for Node
- Adds tracing and metrics to a Node service with a few lines. Pairs with the collector.
